This shoe is great except the fact that it cuts a little higher around my ankles than my feet could ever handle. The heel of this shoe is a bit loose, but once you lace them tight, they do not slip. The toe box of this shoe is very nice and roomy and has a fairly neutral tread and insole. The other thing is that the forward sweep on the front edge of the ankle cut out was a little low. May be I have low-slung ankles therefore it happens.
I also use this shoe while working in the garden and while going out for a walk and also for general going about on our place, which is in rural area of a desert of southeast Arizona. I think this is a protective shoe and supportive as well in rocky kind of an environment. I am in love with the roomy toe box and the non-sloppy heel.
I swear by Keens, both sandals and other styles. I have a bad back, but Keens have great support and I can wear them right out of the box without having to “break them in” Great shoes.
This is the second pair of Keen Voyageurs I have. I have 8 other styles of Keens. The Voyageur and its cousin are the best for long walks and hiking as they have more cushion in the footbed. The laces don’t stay tied as well as I’d like. The Voyageur toe box seems to narrow slightly towards the rubber toe. I usually wear 7.5 or 8, and order 8 in Keen. The 8 fits exactly. My husband, siblings, and I wear the Voyageur and other Keends pretty much interchangeably while walking or hiking in national parks.
As a person with flat feet, I have come to adore Keen shoes with the metatarsal supports. I can walk without pain for long distances. I Also have a Keen sandal with the same support that I have worn constantly this summer.
I made my purchased based off of the buyer reviews I had read. I agree that it gives great arch support, which was my main concern. The only thing I noticed was it fits a little narrow in the toe, which surprised me since most Keens have a wider toe and plenty of room. I probably could bought a 1/2 size bigger but that might of risked it being too loose in the heel. They hold up great on uneven ground and clean up well.
