I am living in a wilderness area and hike everyday and have gone through a fair amount of waterproof boots and shoes. I have put on may be a 100-200 miles on these shoes so far which includes wet conditions and had no problems at all. I have wide feet and ordered these in 9.5 which fits me well. I have looked into many other companies, but Merrell is the only one which offer truly waterproof shoes. They have excellent grip on wet rocks. These shoes are very comfortable and I walk a minimum of an hour a day in these and so for the shoes have held up well. I am more than satisfied with these shoes. These shoes are almost as light as running shoes which offer great traction and grip. If you are looking for a nice hiking shoe then this is the best one to have. They are very comfortable. I tiptoed through shallow creeks on my hikes too and but feet remained dry. I have not experienced the issue of poor construction, for me the construction is very well just like other Merrell shoes. I have only had the shoe from one month and so far no complaints like this. I read many reviews before purchasing these and ordered them in a size up which was a poor decision on my part. I exchanged them with a regular size of mine and they fit perfectly. They are so comfortable that you can spend a whole day in these. I am all the time standing too so that have been a great support. They look good as well. If you are looking for a nice gift for your love ones then you should consider this as it is a very nice shoe. I also wanted to have a shoe for work and these comfortable shoes have made my life very easy. They are very durable. I have shoes by various brands, but I love to wear this one.
