I have 3 pairs and have never had a problem with any. Just like anything they need some upkeep to continue performing as best they can. I polish and protect them with KIWI shoe polish before every hike. For winter or wet days I spray them with KIWI Camp Dry. Very comfortable but I add a sport insole when new for extra comfort on those long hikes.

I first bought this pair of boots in 2007, before going up to San Francisco on a trip. Only a week into breaking the boots in I walked for three days in SF, uphill and down, and across the Golden Gate and back. Suffice to say I did a lot of walking that weekend. Sure, I got tired, but these boots made the walks feel like I was walking on air.
When I find a product I like I tend to stick with it. So when my reliable boots were falling apart recently I figured I go with Timberland again. I was happily surprised to find that the same boots were still available. I bought them again, because I love them so. My old boots served me well, but they were totally worn out. My new boots make me feel like I’m walking on air again. I should have bought a third pair, for the future.

I’m from the ’70’s era of hiking. Gotta have those “heavy” boots. I got my first pair several years ago at an Outlet Mall north of Atlanta. Used them for an AT section hike, plus all the practice hikes leading up to 35+ AT miles. Liked the boot so much and worried about having newish boots, searched for and bought another pair here in Tampa for the second section hike of 35+ miles and then a third for the next 53 miles.
My only problem is that after 400+ hard hiking miles the front bumper has come loose from the leather on the first pair and can’t be re-glued with any confidence. The next two pair have very minor separations.
Love these boots. I need advance notice of when Timberland is going to stop making them so I can buy 3-4 more pair.

I wear this boots on a daily basis for work, I work as a super intendant for a school, I do a lot walking and sometimes it requires for me to run, I love my boots and I have nothing negative to say about this boots, I have been wearing them since 2006 day in, day out.

I have experience with lots of boots. These ones are good, best thing about them is they are comfortable. However, materials used is poor, where the boot tongue meets the tops sides, those sides are worn out after 1 month of wear and some of the insulation is already coming out. As for the Gore-Tex, I have never really experienced all this moisture wicking that boot products claim these days. I find everyday after I take my boots off that the toe area is pretty wet inside and has led my boots to stink up quite a bit. I now stand them up everyday after taking them off to get hem to aerate and completely dry out. For days use they are fine, but if you are doing some serious hiking or gonna be wearing them for long periods of time you may want to consider something else. I am really disappointed of their non-moisture wicking ability.

Bought my first pair almost 3 years ago. They’re finally about to be retired. People say these are for average day hikers…. No way! I wore these everyday, day and night, on a 3 month back country job in California and Oregon. A few months later I had them in a swamp in Alabama. And they hold up pretty well if treated for water resistance back home in 3 feet of snow in Iowa. Buying another pair ASAP!

  7. Paulie says:

The only problem I have had is the fabric where the foot fold is is coming apart from the leather, it starts fraying. The store found me another pair to buy and I was supposed to send the old ones back for a refund but I never did. This shoe is the driest and warmest shoe I have ever owned and I didnt even want to give up my first defective pair.

  8. Trail Stomper says:

I have a pair of these and the White Ledge hiker. These are more comfortable out of the box. Almost no break in time. The lacing binders lend towards strings quickly wearing out, it’s like they shave the strings. These breathe very well. The White Ledge is a far more durable boot with a longer break in but not as comfortable.

If they could redesign these with the White Ledge lacing binders, tongue, and improve the stitching between the leather and Gortex around the insole they would be 100% perfect.

This may be supposedly a day-hiker, but i wore a pair on an 11 day, 100 mile backpacking trip through the New Mexico rockies and they held up fabulously! Comfortable, dry, light and great traction on rocky trails. My whole family wears these, from me to momma to both kids. I’m on my second pair (only because my kid stole my first). No break-in required. These things are trail-ready right out of the box.

Been wearing these boots all most every day for four years because of the comfort. You name the weather and I have warn these boots in it. From subzero temps to summer in the desert. Never had a problem with them until leather finaly wore through. I just purchased two more pairs just in case they stop making them before the new ones wear out.
As for the Timberland company, I just wish they made all their boots in wides for us that need a EEE size.

  11. Bob says:

The seam on the right boot, inboard at the Fabric/Leather sewing has torn in the same spot on two pairs so far. I had to return the first to (insert National vendor here) and will now be returning these after just three weeks for my money back. Good boot, but needs better workmanship. Shame, they were perfect otherwise. Definite manufacture problem.

  12. Servant says:

I’ve been in the contracting business 20 years, also a avid outdoorsman/hunter. Have had feet problems because of work in the past. Not anymore with these boots. On my third pair. THEY ARE WATERPROOF WITH LIGHT CONDITIONS. No boot is 100% waterproof unless all rubber. Quick to dry Overall best boot ever owned!

  13. Greg says:

Nice boot… at first. Felt comfortable, looked good. Wore them today in while walking through one inch snow. These are definitely not waterproof, contrary to advertising. My socks became wet, and the inside of the boot is still wet as well, after several hours of sitting to dry. I would be embarrassed to sell such a product.

  14. Tracker says:

I have used these boots for hiking and they are NOT waterproof. Even though there is a Gore-Tex tag on these, two times out in rainstorms (and never immersed), these boots have filled with water with just the rain that was falling. Very disappointing. I’m returning them, hopefully for a refund.

  15. Mike says:

The only downside, would be the laces, i work in iraq, and use the boots everyday, around 14 hrs each and every day, very comfy, not too heavy, water proof. ONLY complain, is the fact that the laces have frayed in less than a month, finally broke through the outside shield of the laces today. this in my one and ONLY complaint what so ever. Worth every penny on these.

  16. Gordo the pioneer says:

I have had these boots for a year. They are perfect for walking in snow and slush. They lasted perfectly all winter. In the Summer I started hiking with them. The only bad thing was I knocked one of the lace holders off when It skimmed a rock. But they still worked fine. I love these boots and I’m ordering another.

  17. The Plantman says:

I use these boots for landscape work everyday year-round. I work consistently in wet, cold conditions in the winter, and warm weather during the summer. I have owned two pairs of these boots. I will definitely be buying a third pair. I replace them once a year, although they still have no problems when I replace them. I never do anything to maintain them during the year. They never wear out, always waterproof. Great value!

  18. Dog Walker says:

This is my 2nd pair. The 1st pair lasted 5 yrs @ 6 months per yr..The sole and heels wore out from a lot of dog walking (Lab)on asphalt and concrete. Once this happened water began to get in. The pair I just got fit perfectly. Last week I was in heavy snow, slush, mud and streams. NO Moisture, cold or discomfort. They look like new. Walking the dog sometimes involves running. They are as comfortable as my NB 759,s.

  19. John says:

I’ve worn Timberlands for many years and when I needed to replace my old Chocoruas I tried a pair of Flumes and apparently was sent a pair of womens Flumes labeled mens. I returned them and was refunded my money in 3 days. I ordered the Chocoruas in a 9.5 wide and my feet are happier than with my old store bought Chocoruas because I didn’t have to settle for a medium width.
Please, more foot ware in “wide” and don’t let the quality control slip.
    You’re still my boot company.

  20. J.K says:

Loving them!! They are the most perfect boots I have ever worn or seen. I was in search of a good boot from ages. One of my friend suggested me this boot. I never had a timberland boot before, but I thought to listen to my friend’s advice and try this boot on. These boots have changed my life forever. They are perfect in everyway. They look really cool and I have collected so many complements on these. They have become the most favorite boots of mine. I love to wear these again and again. They are the best boots for hiking and you can even walk on any kind of terrain in these super comfy boots. I wear these with thin socks. They have a perfect grip which doesn’t let my foot slip. I am impressed with the high quality of this shoe. It has such a wonderful laces system which offers a perfect fit. They are easy to wear and take off. I am impressed with the craftsmanship of this boot. I will definitely buy more of Timberland shoes in future. WELL DONE TIMBERLAND!!
