Featured Review: (by jimmyo), I’ve had my euros for four days. I was concerned that the boot felt a tad long for my natural 10.5 size feet, but that worry went away after a little research. The aim is to have at least a finger’s width of extra toe room for practical reasons… so, the fit, while just that much longer, is really ideal. The boot is great. Well constructed (from what I can tell) and handsome. Needed only about an hour to break in. I thought I’d be using these for work and rough stuff, but they’re a little too nice for that right now. I don’t want to mess them up! I think these boots are made for walking, though, and light hiking. Very comfortable, but more serious hiking would require a firmer ankle grip. I have no doubt they’ll serve well for daily use. Light and pliable, they work well with any casual outfit. I don’t know about their weather-proof characteristics, but I wouldn’t venture into water deliberately. It seems they’ll take about one to two inches of brief immersion in standing water and will do fine in rain, snow and mud. I think for the money, they’re a great investment.

I bought my first pair of Euro hikers 16 years ago – wore them Snow shoe-ing for many seasons, day hiking on rough terrain, multi-day back packing with 30-40lb pack (18kg pack), up on a ladder painting the house twice. They fit like a glove, so I bought a second pair recently and they too have worn in beautifully this winter & spring. I highly recommend keeping the leather waterproof with dubbin or a similar waxy product for leather boots. They never once let rain or snow inside despite some pretty rough conditions in New Zealand and the Rocky Mountains, USA. They are not too hot in summer like gore-tex lined boots can get.
this is my second pair of Euro Hikers..excellent for work or play. I’ve never used them in very cold weather but I think they should work well. Never had a pair of boots that received so many complements. Wish they still had the black leather available but the other colors are excellent.
I have several pairs of Timberland boot that I wear to hike as well as ride my motorcycle. But I bought a pair about 3 months ago that are just comming apart at the seal (where the front leather and rubber seal is. And I basically am let down that the boot is not with-holding of the Timberland name brand. And I want you (the company) to know. Maybe you have other customer complaints like mine.
Good boots overall, recommended to me by my father who had 2 pair (one for 5 years with extreme usage, second for 3 years and still in good condition) and was very hapy with them. Look stylish enough, quality has been falling steady as production was moved from US to China and now Thailand. standard low Qual. insole, avarage shock absorbtion, lacks a vibram sole, cold climate only (foot sweats in any kind of hiking socks and the paper insole gets wet which prevents this from being a hiking boot even when used with Professional spenco insoles!). Other than that seems ok. Will not buy again though..
I own model # 95102 – light tan, not made anymore. I’ve had them over 15 years, just now the sole started to seperate from the shoe. I applied liquid nail, just can’t replace them yet. I will eventually replace them with another Timberland. 15 years between hiking boots, you can’t ask for a better boot.
I bought a pair of these in 1996 for both my husband and I. They have lasted until 2010. I have never had a shoe that fit so well and was so well made than this pair. Even the shoe laces outlasted any other brand. Just a great product, I was lucky to find the part number still visible on my husbands pair so I could order them again. I will be buying these again in another 14 or 15 years. I hope they are still around!
I had one since 2002 & it’s still ok it’s a great shoes very stylish with jeans khaki in summer or winter with t shirts or polos even with shirts it’s great & also appeared in the movie (speed) thanks timberland for that one but hope you get it in light brown (the color in the movie ) like the one i have cause i want another new one thanks.
I got my FIRST pair because a lady moving out of an apartment was tossing her cheating boyfriends shoes. I offered to put them on Re Use IT for her. Turns out her big footed BF had a brother that was my sized and THUS I got my first pair of Euro Hikers. I wore those out and and got a new pair and then my foot grew at 50 so I just bought a new pair and MY little brother got my second pair.
I have had a couple pairs of these. Had one pair (two weeks old) stolen out of the back of my jeep so i went out and bought another pair right away. Love these and will keep buying them as long as they make’em. As my last pair started to get pretty worn I treated them to a leather cream/wax and used a blow dryer to warm the boots so the cream really soaked in. The boost just got better. Can’t wait to do it with my next pair. I’m a realy picky and cheap buyer but you gotta get a pair of these if all the other reivews haven’t convinced you to already. I was so impressed with my first pair about 20 years ago I almost wrote the president of the company….but i was young and lazy and I didn’t write the letter but i wish i had.
I just bought these boots less than a month ago and I wear them every day. They are very warm and comfortable. The only con I can think about them is lacing them up on the top two hooks every time you put them on, but its not that big of a deal really. I think you should buy these, but if you don’t that is also fine because that means I will be the only one with them on.
I was look for a boot for hiking and saw this at Timberland store in the mall near my house. This boot is meant for hikes, They are sturdy and have superior ankle support. I wore it the first on the hike to Half Dome in yosemite. The shoe is comfortable and had no issue even though I had not broken it in. I must say it saved my feet on those very rocky hike up the mountain. It just made any surface walkable. The foothold grips had solid feel to it. Those looking for flxibility for every day sneaker type use should know that this boot is meant for hiking and the rigidity is meant to protect you from uneven forgiving surface while hiking. For those looking for extra comfort – I did replace the inner liner to make it more comfortable.
Where I’m from basically everyone my age has these boots. It’s a staple of the country winters here. It’s not extremely cold, but we do get a few good snows and ices a year. In the fall we wear them to field parties & hunting sometimes. I’ve had my pair for almost 10 years now, but I wear them sparingly. I have a cousin who goes through a pair every 2-3 years, for the past 10 years. We love these boots down here.
These may be for Summer/Fall hiking but I found with some thick wool socks they make great winter boots. They are sturdy and have superior ankle support compared to other hiking boots I have owned but are not stiff and break in rather quickly. I do use waterproofing made for leather and it has not caused any problems with the rubber soles or wear the rubber is glued to the leather to form a seal. The only thing I would like see changed is the tread. It seems to wear down faster then Vibram lug soles.
I was in the market for a boot that I was good for winter as well as spring and fall. I needed a boot that did not loose traction on ice/snow. I also needed one that was stylish and comfortable to walk around for everyday use. So I looked into hiking boots as my choice. I thought the euro hiker was the answer. It was stylish and provided traction on ice/snow. And I thought it would be comfortable for everyday use. However, it was extremely painful to use. There was no cushioning what so ever. There was no arch support. It was also not flexible at the part where your toes would flex, when walking. The ankle area was also very stiff. The back part of my ankle area would be sore after driving. What a waste of money. I am looking into sneaker based boots, those might be more comfortable.
Got these boots with a gift card at a Timbo outlet and was having a boot sale I got them at a great deal that I could not resist. At first I didn’t think realize how useful they were, I go hiking all the time and these turned into my late fall/winter/early spring boot. I used them for two years put mink oil on them and I have never had a problem. Snow, rain, no problem, with the floods we have been having the trails are rivers in themselves that I can just walk through. These boots are ideal in cooler temps. once its starts getting warm maybe 60 degrees for me then I need to switch boots. But they are lightweight and great for the snow rain and hiking in the cooler weather.
I started having some medical issues with my feet and now require wider boots and shoes. As a woman normally wearing size 8B shoes, I ordered the men’s version of this shoe in size 7.5 wide. I couldn’t be happier – I wear them with everyday jeans and most importantly, they hold up for all my walking and light-medium hiking. I wore them everyday last autumn during a 3-week trip to Scotland – and I’ll be wearing them there again this October. Please keep this shoe in your inventory in the large selection of sizes that I’ve seen it over the years.
Been wearing these hikers for over 20 yrs and in that time have only worn out three (3) pairs! They are the most comfortable and versatile hiker I have or ever will own. I only hope they keep this style available for the next 20 yrs!!!
I wear them daily at work and keep them on after as they are so comfortable they sooth my feet even after standing in them all day long. I’d recommend them to anyone who likes to wear boots daily for their comfort and durability.
I have had these for 6 years and they are still just as good as the day I bought them. These things last forever! Only recommendation I have is to buy these a half size smaller than your tennis shoes. I wear an 11 – 11.5 men’s NIKE tennis shoe and a 10.5 men’s in this boot. Feel great for long hiking trips with weight, walking in the rain, and everything in between. Best pair of hiking boots I have ever owned. Does not get much better than this.
I am sixty five years old and not athletic; I bought the Euro Hiker to go on a hiking trip to the Alps with my boyfriend. I am an artist and am concerned with style and not having to look like a “dork”. These shoes look terrific and they are NOT heavy (as one reviewer stated) and, for me, they are very comfortable and seem as if they would last a lifetime. Although I take a size 10, these were way too big and the size 9.5 fit me perfectly. Also, compared with other hiking shoes out there, these were reasonably priced.
I’m not sure why everyone raves about this boot. Sorry to cut it down since it’s such a favorite, but when I removed the insole, underneath was either wood or cardboard – something that would probably never soften or support the foot for long hikes. The outsole also appears to be so flimsy it would wear out after just one hike on rocky terrain. Most people who like this boot say they have had it for years and years, so I’ll bet it used to be made a lot better. I don’t think the version I ordered was well made at all, although the leather itself was good quality for the price. But I would rather pay twice as much for an entirely well made shoe, not [$] for half a boot. I think I’m in the minority though.
I bought these to replace a favorite pair of Timberlands that I wore for 13 years. They were good on ice, waterproof, warm and good on my feet, which have bunions. The Euro Hiker is very, very comfortable and gorgeous. But the first time I wore them outside, I took a spectacular skid on the ice and twisted my surgically-repaired knee. What’s worse, I almost took a header in the supermarket. The soles are just not fit for any wet, slippery surface. I think they are really just to wear indoors, or somewhere dry.
First a little background. Boy Scouts, did the Philmont trip. Been outdoors ever since. Been around enough to know the boot market. Bought these for myself several years ago and was impressed. Just bought them for my wife and she’s impressed. What impresses me the most is the higher grade of leather. For the price point these boots are in, you won’t find this grade of leather on any other boot.Bottom line, if you are looking for a good looking, full upper leather, comfortable, sturdy boot than look no further. […]it’s hard to find a comparable boot in the price bracket. I don’t think you will be disappointed. I’m not.
I’ve had these boots since 1999. Unfortunately, they are not in the best shape, so I decided to change them for a more “stylish” or more feminine and less “clunky” boot. What a mistake! I recently dug these out and would rather wear these in the shape their in than the winter boots, I currently own. I am soooo thrilled to know that you still offer these boots.
I can’t believe I paid for these. My feet would be just as warm if I simply wore wet socks into the inclimate weather. I have tried Smartwool, 100% wool, cotton, silk, various blends, and even socks specifically for skiing. Not cheap sockx either. The warranty department said I could send them back[…]. How does that work, when I’ve already paid for the boot, you want me to pay even more so they can be declared defect free. I really am not interested in spending more money on these boots. I had the same boots in the past, and they were fine. I can’t believe it. I frown on the quality of these boots.
My boots arrived just in time for the Dec 2010 snow storm in Philly. I am very happy to say that my feet have stayed warm and dry. I find the boots to be heavy, but I’m used to wearing running sneakers. They are stiff around the ankle, but I think that’s because they’re brand new. I hope they give some with a couple wears. They are comfortable enough to leave on all day. I’m very satisfied with my purchase.
I am 27 years old and when I was a freshman in high school, I was the first person in school to own a pair of these boots. Everyone wanted a pair! I wore them all the time up until I was a junior in college. I left my boots at my parents house when I got married and moved many states away and have not been able to locate them since….so I am buying a new pair! Timberland…please, please do not discontinue these boots! I don’t know what I’ll do if I can’t ever find these boots again. I love them sooo much. You did an outstanding job desgining these boots!!!
When I was in high school Doc Martens were really popular and of course I wanted a pair. But truth be told I really needed practical boots for outdoor activities. I asked my mom for both docs and tims. She said, “No, pick one or the other.” I went for the timberlands and am so happy I did! That was 14 years ago. I have had many pairs of Timberlands since then but I still have these old boots and use them for yard work, hiking, kickin’ around, going to the store, taking the dog for a walk, anything really, they are my go to boots. They could be the best choice I made in high school. Thanks Mom!
